The Magic of Neem
The history of Neem Oil
From a lush, evergreen tree endemic to the Indian subcontinent, comes the neem oil, pressed from the fruits and seeds of the tree. The eponym “Neem” is derived from the Sanskrit word "nimba", which Is defined as the "bestower of good health".
Throughout history, the Neem trees were explored to make herbal beauty treatments, insecticides, and first aid treatments for numerous skin ailments. While this tree is known to yield a carrier oil, the tree, in its entirety, from the bark, leaves, roots, flowers, and fruits are also used to make medicine. Neem oil has an extensive history of use in Ayurvedic medicine – to maintain oral hygiene, cooking and treat dry throat.
Neem oil contains a multitude of ingredients that are extremely beneficial to the skin. Some of those ingredients include:
-
fatty acids (EFA)
-
limonoids
-
vitamin E
-
triglycerides
-
antioxidants
-
calcium
Beauty Benefits:
1. Fades scars
The bestower of good health works wonders when applied topically to scars. Research shows that the neem oil has amazing skin-healing properties with an ability to fade wounds and dark spots.
2. Treats acne
The underrated neem oil holds antibacterial properties, which is ideal for those suffering from acne. Not only can it help spot treat, but it’s evidently successful at fighting it off in the long term.
3. Helps with Anti-aging
Research has shown that this Indian oil is effective in treating the following symptoms of skin ageing:
-
skin thickening
-
water loss
What was also discovered was the extract boosted levels of a collagen-producing enzyme called procollagen and a protein called elastin.
Collagen is the entity that gives your skin structure – making it look plump and full, while elastin helps retain the skin's shape. As we age, the production of these compounds tends to decrease. This eventually leads to dry, deflated-looking, thin skin and the formation of wrinkles.
4. Other skin symptoms
Use neem oil to treat the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, and other disorders of the skin.
