Bye Bye Dark Undereye
A night of partying or a stressful job that lead to sleepless nights are both instances that contribute to dark under eye circles. Due to its less than attractive aesthetic, we spend lots of money on skincare products in the hopes of treating our dark circles. Instead of putting a dent on your wallet, here are some home remedies you can try:
Why Do We Get Eye Circles?
There are many contributing factors to eye bags. Sometimes, you can diligently care for your skin, but the age factor would eventually present itself — and that includes dark circles. As we mentioned, over time, the skin’s elasticity weakens, loses collagen and grows thinner. Our daily exposure to the sun doesn’t help the cause, so your best weapon against under-eye circles are disciplined and consistent sunblock application habits from young. Bear in mind however; it all boils down to genes — it’s the determining factor for what our skin would look like when we age. Those with fairer or thin skin tend to show under circles more easily than others because when the blood pools in the capillaries under our eyes, it’s more obvious.
1. Massage
Blend virgin coconut oil and almond oil and massage gently in circular motion around the eyes, on the daily. Leave on for about an hour.
2. Rose Water
Rose water is an ingredient used in a myriad of skin care products such as toners. Its benefit also extends to removing dark circles too. Soak some cotton pads with rose water and place it on the dark circles, almost like a mask. Leave it on for 15 minutes after which you can wash it off with cold water and repeat as often as possible.
3. Tomato Eye Toner
The plump, juicy tomato, while may not look like it, is an excellent exfoliating agent. To make a DIY mask, mix lemon juice and fresh tomato juice and massage the eye area with it daily. Leave the toner on for about 20 minutes and wash with coconut water.
4. Cold tea bags
This is quite the popular remedy and easy to execute. Soak a chamomile or green tea bag in water and chill it. Once it’s cold enough, place them over your eyes. To notice a definite difference, use this remedy frequently.
5. Cucumber
We have often seen in movies and spas how the professionals place slices of cucumber on the eyes when doling out a treatment. It really doesn’t take any effort at all. Keep sliced cucumber in the fridge for 30 minutes and place them on your dark circles. Allow it to work its magic for 10 minutes before washing with cold water — immediate refreshment for the eyes.
6. Get 8 Hours of Sleep
Sleep deficiency is one of the reasons why many suffer from heavy eye bags. A sleepless night can immediately show in the eyes the next day. Therefore, the best and most natural remedy is treating yourself to an indulgent 8-hour sleep. A good night’s rest will rejuvenate the skin.
7. Yoga and/or Meditation
Stress is another factor that easily shows up on the body, like dark eye circles. To battle stress, one must be relaxed, and this can be sought through yoga and meditation. These sources of positivity can not only uplift your soul but reduce the underlying damages it does to your skin.
